Currently pursuing her MFA at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, ceramic artist Alwyn O’Brien (Salt Spring Island, BC) was the first recipient of the One of a Kind Show/Gardiner Museum Emerging Artist Award in 2007. Mini Bio My full time operation of Board & Bench is the culmination of a life-long interest and hobby in woodworking coupled with twenty years' experience and fascination with the design side of men's clothing. The stripes customers loved on the shirts and socks I designed flow across the surface of the cutting boards and butcher blocks I create now. My signature product is a line of functional cutting and serving boards, all made by combining woods of various types and colours. The boards are beautiful, but definitely designed to be used! I design and make everything that you see here in One of a Kind's photo gallery and in my booth at the show with full time help from my son, Nick..
