Environmental Considerations

The One Of A Kind Show is committed to sustainability at every level of our event. We encourage exhibitors to push their creativity by designing booths that are not only gorgeous and unique, but environmentally responsible as well. Here are a few of our favourite tips and tricks:

Choose wisely - Source materials that meet the standards for low environmental impact such as wood sustainably certified to the FSC or PEFC standards and low-VOC paint. Also look for rapidly renewable materials.

Build with de-construction in mind - Build with screws instead of nails and limit your use of adhesives. Your booth is much more likely to survive move-out (and live to see another show!) if you use a drill instead of a crowbar during the dismantling process.

Upcycle materials – Resources like the Re-Store are excellent for small-scale construction supplies such as trim, tile, shelving and lighting. Décor-wise, incorporate items you already own, which can be returned to their permanent home after the show.

Consider the final destination - For single-use items, choose recyclable options over materials which will end up in a landfill.

Source local materials – Local choices will support your local economy, require decreased shipping and boast a traceable origin.

Dispose responsibly – Take the time to sort materials to proper waste and recycling outlets.

Embrace a circular economy – When the time comes to move on from your current booth setup, post your booth for sale on the One of a Kind Facebook group for other members within the OOAK maker community. https://www.facebook.com/groups/oneofakindshowartisans

Stay low-energy – Invest in LED lighting and other products that meet energy-saving criteria.
